Day 3-Day 4: Shimada to Toyokawa (~53 miles)
 |
The beautiful tea gardens of Shizuoka prefecture. |
Today's goal was to trek over to Toyokawa (in Aichi Prefecture) to meet an old friend of Jason's, Tak (Takuto). Tak was an exchange student in Jason's town during high school so it was a 15 year reunion. We stayed at his house for one night and ate some awesome
miso nikomi udon, a regional food that was amazing.

Delicious miso-nikomi udon. Above: Tak, our host with a bib they provide us since the noodles splash (how Japanese, no?). Below, nice fancy closeup. Um Yum. |
The next day we got to (finally!!) go to an
onsen and we even go to go in co-ed since no one else was there. Coincidentally, the minerals in the hot spring water was good for muscle and joint aches, so it was an added plus. Splendid.

Relaxing at the onsen. Clockwise from top: Kayo, Shigeru, Tak, Jaon, Yosuke). |
After releasing all the lactates and junk from our muscles, we got taken to
Inari-Jinjya, where the famous
Inari-zushi comes from. It was very interesting, especially the slightly creepy area in the back with 0983107982347 fox statues (they're sort of like little demi-gods).

Cute...during the day? |

Delicious Inari-zushi. And vegan! |
