Hello from New York! The city that never sleeps.
So, big cities = awesome cuisine, so I suspected there would be something along the lines of insect dishes. And I did find a couple places including:
Casa Mezcal specializing in cheese covered grasshopper tacos
Toloache also serving grasshopper (chapulines) tacos
Also the White and Church also seems to serve some crawly drinks, but the link is broken for their website.
Surprisingly few, but I also had very sporadic internet search time.
As I'm here on an "art excursion" with my uncle (graduation present, yes he ROCKS), my schedule is full of museum visits and the such, but I managed to squeeze in a dinner moment to run off to check out Toloache and their fabulous chapulines tacos.
...but to my dismay, today was too busy and they weren't making them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WTF???? I was so sad! Sorry folks, if you're wanting a visual of the grasshopper taco, I don't have one for your nor a monologue of its potential deliciousness. Alas!
However, since I was already there, I consoled myself with a prickly pear margarita and two de pastor tacos, which were aMAzing. The margarita was also pleasantly strong, so I walked out in a blissful haze (and out $27 on my unemployed budget. But hey, it's New York, and as my friend told me, I'd be "hemorrhaging money the second off the plane"). The lighting was awful and I was equipped with my bro's digital, so again, no photos....
And soft serve for dessert...it needed some toffeed mealworm. |
